It was only a matter of time until my favorite male Actor, Jake Gyllenhaal, made his way to the top of AfterElton.com’s hot 100 gay list.

According to AfterElton.com’s Results:

Given how little we’ve actually seen of Jake over the past twelve months – two films that grossed only $43 million between them; his very low profile since the death of friend and Brokeback Mountain co-star Heath Ledger – it truly is a testament to Gyllenhaal’s enduring appeal to gay men that he topped our list for the second straight year. (It should be noted, however, that he edged out John Barrowman by only the narrowest of margins.)

What accounts for Jake’s ongoing appeal to gay men? His doe-eyed, boy next door (yet somehow smoldering) looks certainly don’t hurt, but we suspect what really makes gay men go for him is that he doesn’t have an issue going for us. From playing gay in Brokeback to appearing at a GLAAD award show to not feeling the need to distance himself from his gay fans (remember the shout out to us done in drag on Saturday Night Live?), Jake has done as much as any actor to show straight guys there isn’t a good reason to be afraid of gay guys (or gay roles).

Jake’s upcoming projects will showcase his range and willingness to tackle a variety of roles. This December he’ll be starring in director Jim Sheridan’s drama Brothers, then in 2009 moviegoers will see him tackle the romantic comedy Nailed before playing Dastan in Prince of Persia (based on the video game of the same name). Alas, none of his roles have him playing gay again, but we are curious to see what he does with his upcoming role as Joe Namath.

And I say Hubba.

Understanding Homophobia, The Hot Debate

Ever since my parents discovered my sexuality, I have been faced with the difficult task of understanding the implications surrounding this ejection from my family. I began to think and jot down my thoughts, as well as talk to as many people as I can about homophobia and how it has rooted its way into mainstream society.

This is one of those posts that I deliberated as to whether or not I needed to put myself out there. I am assuming that I am not alone in this world, in fact, I understand and know many people whom are in my same situation. I also know those dear people whom I surround myself who are sensitive to the world of battling with an opposition so powerful as I am.

Homophobia used to be a word I never understood. I remember when I was in tenth grade and during class one day and the topic came up. One of my friends said her brother was incredibly homophobic. This was the first time I had ever heard this term. I had grown up sheltered, unaffected by the stimuli many children received in school growing up.

The term homophobia for me was no different than arachnophobia — the fear of spiders. But what is it about homosexuals that makes people fear them? My friends during that classroom discussion laughed at me when I asked this question. Only a few seconds later did they all stop and realize that the word itself made no sense. Why would people fear homosexuals?

This has been a question of my existence. This has been something that I have been exposed to day after day.

The story began when my parents first discovered my sexuality via a stupid decision I made on myspace. My mother did not hold back in yelling at me over the phone. The woman that I had loved so dearly chopped me at the knees with her words. “Fudgepacker, faggot, fucking homo.” These are all words that I learned to accept since that day.

I love to peruse youtube and see all the kooks that get themselves a fancy webcam.

But, how can you justify being anti-gay by being pro-life? Does that round the circle of ignorance and stand firm on the false assumption that homosexuality destroys the creation process? Yes, there is the fact that two males cannot procreate, but that does not mean we are anti-creation. By no means am I slowing down the “creation” baby-making process by being gay.

Now I will say that I have been clean for two years. Two years ago I would not be able to defend my stance on this topic, for it was routine for me to go out and club straight kids with a jimmy bat.

Too bad his parents were not gay.
